Patience isn’t a virtue many associate with communicators, but Chris Jones defies that at Pierpont every day. As a Vice President in our Houston office, Chris is a thoughtful, solutions-focused leader who can expertly spearhead any communications effort—from launching public relations campaigns and improving internal communications to navigating crisis situations.
An engineer by trade and more than 20 years of communications experience in the energy industry, Chris brings a unique perspective to Pierpont’s clients. He is a FEMA certified crisis communications professional, leading the crisis preparation and response team for many of the firm’s energy clients. From developing effective crisis plans to conducting media training and emergency response exercises, Chris works with his clients to protect their reputation across all stakeholders and channels.
Beyond crisis situations, Chris is driven by a passion for helping organizations leverage their communications channels to support business objectives. His expertise includes internal and external communications, investor relations, strategy development and corporate philanthropy. In fact, Chris was the driving force in the development and implementation of a large public relations campaign to promote one of the country’s largest interstate natural gas pipelines to various stakeholders, including large customers, state and local government officials and regulators.
He regularly speaks to professional organizations and university students on issues including crisis management, today’s media environment, and community relations strategy. Chris is past president of the Corporate Community Relations Council in Houston. He earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Christian Brothers University in Memphis and a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
