Andy Baron

Senior Counsel

For more than three decades, Andy Baron has carved out an impactful career in journalism, publishing, and public relations. He has interviewed national figures in politics, business, and culture, providing insights about a host of issues impacting our world.

Prior to joining Pierpont, Andy spearheaded public relations activities for Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Mass., for nearly 10 years. He led media relations efforts for the university, providing messaging and media training to scientists and engineers that led to top-tier media coverage in outlets such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Associated Press and BBC.

He was also the lead PR executive on a multi-university consortium—which included Texas A&M, University of Illinois, and Cornell University—that aimed to secure a multi-million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation for food safety technologies. Earlier at WPI, he was director of presidential communications for WPI President Laurie Leshin, serving as chief speechwriter and developing and communicating the former NASA space scientist’s platform as a public opinion leader.

Professional Experience

Prior to WPI, Andy worked for 11 years at Boston-based PR firm PAN Communications, where he oversaw a portfolio of professional services and technology accounts totaling more than $1 million annually. Earlier in his career, he served as associate editor of Robb Report magazine, where he interviewed business leaders such as Warren Buffett, former General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, and former NASCAR team owner Felix Sabates. He was also an award-winning reporter at three Massachusetts-based publications, covering crime, politics, and government.

He earned his master’s degree in Marketing & Innovation at WPI and received his bachelor’s degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass. He also has skills in areas such as product and brand management, qualitative research, and marketing analysis.

A lifelong Massachusetts resident, Andy enjoys mentoring young PR practitioners in the Greater Boston area and providing communications support for his local parish. Andy enjoys hiking, playing pickup basketball, listening to music, and reading. He and his wife, Deb, have three adult children.
