Skanska USA, in partnership with Harris County Hospital District (HCHD), built the Smith Clinic, a state-of-the-art medical facility designed exclusively for outpatients and committed to providing specialty and cancer care, in the Texas Medical Center area. Skanska looked to its strategic public relations partner, Pierpont, to plan and execute the important topping out ceremony for the Smith Clinic.

Solution

Pierpont worked with the Skanska construction team and the HCHD medical team to create a topping-out ceremony that included the community, civic influencers, and elected officials. The topping-out ceremony signified the project was on schedule and highlighted the exemplary safety record of all involved. Pierpont created and planned the event and guest invitation organized the event run of the show, drafted speeches, and coordinated the raising of the topping-out event.

After the program, a hearty BBQ lunch was provided to more than 150 workers and attendees. As part of the ceremony, all construction workers were provided with specially made T-shirts commemorating the topping-out event.

Pierpont also conducted media relations print media and three local TV stations covered the event. Skanska was recognized by HCHD as a valued partner and leader in hospital construction in the Houston area. The company also achieved its goal of building state-of-the-art facilities in a safe working environment. Through the storytelling created by Pierpont, all key messages were included in the media coverage.
