As the largest retailer in the world, it can be difficult to reach customers at a local level. After working on successful public relations efforts for over ten years, Walmart naturally activated Pierpont to help lead and implement a new community relations program aimed at improving brand reputation across the Greater Houston community. The company’s goals and vision included increased associate engagement, accelerated awareness and engagement in customers, and a digital communications strategy.
Pierpont was tasked with engaging several markets within the Houston region via one cohesive campaign. Our strategies and tactics included engagement with prominent community organizations, local elected officials, area schools, and initiatives. We worked with company leaders to identify and engage market managers and store managers and together mapped out key relationships and activations for the calendar year.
Through Pierpont’s network, Walmart strengthened its relationships in the communities they operate in allowing us to execute hyper-local events and campaigns – from assembling and delivering care packages to active military members, renovating teacher lounges at local schools, fundraising nearly $1 million in customer and employee donations towards cancer research, and bringing holiday joy to area families.
Pierpont’s approach to community relations helped Walmart strengthen its relationship with associates, customers, and community, cementing the global brand as a true community partner.
