Job Opening: Senior Account Executive

Basic Function: More sophisticated client involvement. Strong understanding and execution of social media strategy and tactics. Movement toward independent management of account(s) and staff. Requires minimal editing and supervision on moderate-level assignments. Begin to establish specialization or practice preference. Carries out communications programs for clients with an increasing role in direct client involvement. Supervises Assistant Account Executives and interns.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Account Management:

  • Handles and, in some situations, supervises the various public relations, social media and/or public affairs activities of client programs within a designated account team(s) and within designated budget.

  • Works on a range of activities under the direction of supervisor(s) within one or more accounts, including research, writing, event planning/organization, and logistical support; writes and presents programs elements.

  • Represents, and in some situations supervises, client(s) to the media and manages all aspects of media relations, including news conferences, promotions, product launches, editorial board meetings, etc.

  • Executes media tours, training and pitch/release distribution from start to finish with minimal oversight. Demonstrates superior media relations abilities and garners significant coverage for clients in all types of media outlets.

  • Initiates creative ideas and suggests proactive, forward-thinking account management tactics, taking ownership of ideas and suggestions.

  • Assists with and/or supervises monthly activity reports.

  • Represents clients before various public/audiences.

  • Supervises special events.

  • Liaison between client and Pierpont.

Client Service:

  • Earns clients’ trust, serving as a go-to resource for information and account updates. Can serve as primary client contact.

  • Maintains regular client contact, ensuring that client is proactively updated and regularly briefed on all relevant account activity.

  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of the client’s business and the public relations initiatives undertaken for that client, including the identification of opportunities for further account development.

  • Focuses on and enforces quality standards in servicing the client, including presentation of all work product.

Staff Management:

  • Works effectively with account team, including project supervision of subordinates and others directly assigned.

  • Delegates assignments and responsibilities appropriately, managing subordinates and superiors as appropriate.

  • Projects persona characteristics of positive attitude, leadership, professional appearance, initiative, creativity, results-oriented attitude and the ability to work as part of a team environment.

  • Thinks creatively and strategically about how to enhance the value of services delivered to clients.

  • Manages time effectively, meets deadlines, pays attention to detail, and sets priorities for specific assignments, both for self and others.

  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring advice to junior-level staff members, assisting in the professional development process.

  • Engages in professional development activities such as leadership seminars, interpersonal skills development exercises and networking organization involvement.

Financial Management:

  • Understands business practices/vendor relations.

  • Oversees monthly and/or weekly budget status reports as part of budget tracking process.

  • Keeps accurate records to time worked on each client each day.

  • Ability to manage and maintain integrity of client budgets.

  • Can accurately provide a price quote – either from own knowledge or existing resources – for projects outside the retainer, including online and graphics work.

New Business:

  • Research, prepare and deliver new business proposals for new and existing clients.

  • Identifies incremental business opportunities on current accounts and new business opportunities with new prospects.

  • Begins engagement in networking and professional development organizations at a higher level, including serving on a committee, to grow and strengthen business development skills.

Firm Promotion:

  • Assists in promoting the firm upon request and/or as appropriate.

Staff Development:

  • Evaluates subordinates and superiors for annual review purposes.

  • Disseminates and delegates account management assignments to colleagues and subordinates as appropriate.

  • Conducts and/or participates in training programs.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including traditional, social and interpersonal interaction.

  • Well-developed knowledge of business practices/vendor relations.

  • Ability to direct budgets.

  • Maturity to handle independent client contact.
