Last week, the city of Houston was hit with torrential downpours, which created dangerous flooding across the region. Many Pierpont clients recognized the need to help those affected and extended their support to the surrounding communities by offering employee volunteers, much-needed supplies and monetary donations.
To support the Houston flood victims, Reliant Energy, an NRG Company, donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast Region during the KPRC Local 2, Houston NBC affiliate, on-air fundraiser and phone bank for disaster relief. Group 1 Automotive also donated $5,000 to the local Red Cross chapter during KPRC’s phone bank fundraiser.
Additionally, Sunoco Logistics donated $25,000 to flood relief efforts and the Offshore Technology Group announced its plans to make a donation to the Houston Flood Relief Fund to assist in the recovery efforts. Jetco Delivery’s team pulled together to donate 10 pallets of supplies to help with flood relief in Houston and the surrounding areas.
Pierpont and Walmart coordinated with city, county and state elected officials across the region to identify the communities with the greatest needs. Then, they worked with local store managers to gather water, food, baby products, hygiene items, undergarments and over 500 cleaning kits. Walmart store associates also visited with affected families across the Greenspoint community and delivered care packages neighbor to neighbor.
In a statement about the company’s relief efforts, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said, “Walmart’s illustrated true dedication to the surrounding communities that have been affected by the recent devastating storms with its donation of over 500 cleaning kits and hygiene items. Walmart’s efforts have truly made a difference.”
