When tragedies like fires, floods and hurricanes strike your neighbors, you want to help. The American Red Cross serving Central Texas recently recognized Pierpont Communications and dozens of its other corporate partners doing just that at the Corporate Appreciation Event.
“We live in a region where wildfires, 100-year floods and devastating tornadoes can happen… sometimes all at the same time,” said Marty McKellips (pictured right), CEO of the American Red Cross serving Central Texas, as she welcomed attendees, reiterating the impact they have. “At the Red Cross, we call those ‘gray skies,’ and the only way we’re able to respond effectively in those moments is because we have corporate partners like you all providing money, training and volunteers when the skies are blue.”
McKellips went on to describe several recent events where corporate partners provided crucial support, such as financial resources that ensured volunteers were trained and emergency response vehicles were stocked. Most recently, this support has aided in deploying volunteers to Louisiana in response to the historic floods there.
Over the years, Pierpont has played an active role as a supporter of Red Cross efforts, providing financial support, communications training for Red Cross staff and support directly from Pierpont employees. Pierpont’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Stacy Armijo (pictured left) has served in numerous capacities on the Board of Directors. Senior Account Executive Sylvester Palacios regularly provides on-the-ground support as a volunteer Public Information Officer, specifically supporting Spanish-language media.
“Tragedies large and small happen in our community every day and sometimes you feel powerless to help,” said Armijo. “In those moments, I’m grateful for the role Pierpont plays with the American Red Cross because I know it makes a difference to our neighbors in moments of profound need.”
