As Vice President of National Media Relations, Chris Wailes is Pierpont’s resident media watchdog. With deep working relationships spanning national, regional and trade media, Chris is a walking encyclopedia of media contacts. But it isn’t just his impressive contacts that put him at the top of his game – it’s his years of in-the-trenches experience in crafting editorial campaigns that help clients maximize visibility and thought leadership.
Chris oversees the creation, implementation and execution of media relations for Pierpont clients in clean technology, renewable energy, oil and gas exploration and production and corporate, construction, immigration and workplace and labor law. He also spearheads our media training practice, specializing in both proactive interview situations and crisis communications.
Chris built his reputation through nationally recognized work with the media (Bulldog Reporter, The American Marketing Association and PR Week campaigns of the year) and is a repeat panelist at Bulldog Reporter’s National Media Relations Summit.
He came to Houston in 2008 after serving as the Senior Media Strategist for Weber Shandwick Worldwide’s Technology Practice Group in Washington, D.C. During his tenure, he created effective campaigns for national and international issues including Napster and the recording industry’s fight to end peer-to-peer file sharing; employer-employee privacy and U.S. airline and airport security following Sept. 11.
Since 2010, Chris has twice won the American Marketing Association’s Houston Chapter’s Crystal Award for outstanding public relations campaigns, along with PR Week’s 2011 nonprofit campaign of the year. He has been invited to lecture on crisis communications to both graduate and undergraduate classes at the University of Texas-Austin and Rice University.
