No doubt any millennial reading this knows what the headline is trying to communicate: "Oh My God, You've Got to be Kidding."

For anyone reading this over the age of 30, you're not alone in thinking, "I had no idea what this meant ... and probably don't care."

Funny - the millennials DO care. This text message came from an editorial in today's Dallas Morning News, where the wisest of the wise news editors stated, "Teen reading habits are a shocker!"

That certainly got my attention.

Also known as "Echo Boomers," this generation comprises some 80 million people (U.S. alone) ranging in age from 10 to 27. Text messaging isn't new, but is likely a mainstay. This generation prefers to communicate virtually, even when they're sitting 10 feet apart in the same office.

So how do you "reach" the millennial? My friend Kim Karnett suggests:

  • No hype.
  • Do not talk down to them.
  • Be honest and deliver consistent, genuine messages.

Make sense? The millennials reading this are nodding their heads; the Boomers are probably scratching their heads in wonderment, amusement and confusion.

I say, "ICTBWICTI."

That's text messaging for "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it." For any millennial reading this, that's my lingo from the ‘60s and ‘70s.
