Austin American Statesman article, “Austin PR experts say Toyota should've responded sooner to recall.” Heymeyer was quoted with other Austin PR veterans on the implications of the Japanese car maker’s crisis communications strategy.
Hemeyer advocated that Toyota engage in face-to-face interactions with customers.

Although Hemeyer said Toyota moved on the controversy “as fast as they could,” he said the company now needs to engage its customers.
The key will be to give them ammunition, so they can spread the word to others. After all, customers ultimately want to justify their car purchases, said Hemeyer.
“They don't want to admit they bought a lemon,” Hemeyer said.
