The 2010 Winter Olympics are underway! In fact, as of today, the U.S. has already racked up 14 medals, including five Gold medals! Go U.S.A.!
Owing to a youth spent on downhill skis and figure skates, the Winter Games have always been my favorite Olympics. This year, I am especially excited to be following my favorite Olympians (go Lindsey!) through social media. From Facebook updates to pre- and post-event Tweets, our favorite winter athletes are keeping us in the know about the games.
Here are just some of the American athletes you can follow and cheer on:
Lindsey Vonn. I am so excited that Lindsey won Gold yesterday! She’s one of my favorite winter athletes – I just love her!

Shaun White. I am a skiing traditionalist, so snowboarders don’t usually make it on my radar. But Shaun is really fun to follow and posts lots of photos and videos. And besides – even I think seeing a snowboarder fly 10 feet in the air is VERY cool!

(NOTE: He doesn’t update his Twitter account often, so become a fan on Facebook for the latest news.)
Shani Davis. I don’t speed skate, but watching Shani do it sort of makes me want to try. Plus, he just won Gold!

Apollo Anton Ohno. He wasn’t much of a star before his Dancing with the Stars win in 2007. Now, he’s probably the most well-known athlete – although you may not know what sport he competes in! (It’s speed skating).

(NOTE: Unlike Shaun, he’s more active on Twitter than Facebook.)
Johnny Weir. Johnny is the three-time U.S. Figure Skating Champion – and a rising fashion designer and actor. He’s been compared to Lady Gaga – on ice. Check out his costumes and you’ll see why.
