Eric Whittington
Vice President
Eric leads Pierpont's San Antonio office based on his 20 years of South Texas-based experience in communications strategy, brand development, corporate communications, public affairs, media relations and marketing. He has worked with organizations large and small, including Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Clear Channel Communications, USAA, Ultramar Diamond Shamrock, the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research and the Texas Workforce Commission's Alamo Region office.
Eric is deeply experienced in life sciences, real estate, economic development and public issues. He was part of the team of San Antonio-area business and civic leaders who assembled the city's successful proposal to bring Toyota's massive Tundra/Tacoma pickup truck assembly operation to San Antonio and helped direct Clear Channel Communications' strategies in response to intense scrutiny by national political leaders, the entertainment industry and grassroots groups following the company's aggressive acquisition program. Eric was a key member of the USAA Corporate Marketing team that led the overhaul of the company's brand in the late '90s.
He has successfully placed national and international media coverage of numerous scientific topics, leading business figures and stories and personalities. He recently developed and executed the marketing and public relations strategy for the launch of a biotech company focused on women's health and oncology issues, helping the new firm raise almost $4.5 million in venture and angel capital in eight weeks despite a general economic downturn.
Eric is a native Houstonian who went straight from Friendswood High to the University of Houston, where he studied radio/TV/film communications. He often says, however, that he wasn't born in San Antonio but got there as fast as he could. Eric has been involved as a board member or by providing pro bono communications strategy help to organizations including the Southwest Mental Health Center, San Antonio Manufacturers Association, BioMed SA, San Antonio Life Science Association, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and others.
Eric and his wife have a son in college and another in high school.
